La Malmaison hotel

hotel was in a very central location close to Promenade Des Anglais, beach, old town and Messena Square. Room was comfortable, quiet, cleaned daily with towels replaced as required. Breakfast was a bit of a let down the serving times are between 7 am and 10 am but you really need to be down sharp to ensure food and tea/coffee are hot. However this did not put us off and we would certainly return to this hotel.

Top Tip

Take time to visit Monaco the views are fantastic. Costs 1 euro each way on the bus which runs regularly from the station. Excellent meals at Le Havane on Rue de France great atmosphere and entertainment. Le Tapenade on Rue Ste Reparte serves great food. Try to visit the castle which is at the top of the stairs built into the hill (you can see them from promenade) it's well worth the climb just for the spectacular views across the bay. If you don't fancy walking catch the little tourist train which is the easy option. If you want a trip out of Nice try taking the bus to Vence the town is lovely and whilst there have lunch at Le Pigeonnier which is in Place du Peyra. All restaurants we visited were excellent value. Unless you have children avoid The Buffalo Grill, whilst food is OK the children running up and down (one even kicking a football about) ruins the atmosphere when you are out for a quiet meal for 2.

a good position - three minutes walk to Promenade des Anglais and same to rail station

Top Tip

train around Old Town excellent value - it is not made clear but travellers can get of at top of hill and enjoy the park and cafes - then get back on later train
